Is MLK in Fortnite? Explaining Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘March Through Time’ event

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is in the popular video game “Fortnite” thanks to a collab with TIME Studios.

News of the event led to a lot of conversation, and some confusion as to what that actually meant.

While MLK is in the video game, he’s not available as a skin or character as some believed. Instead, MLK is in the game as a video delivering his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at a virtual version of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

A video for the event had the following information in its description:

March Through Time teleports players to D.C. 63, a reimagined Washington, DC. Built by ChaseJackman, GQuanoe, XWDFr, and YU7A, travel to the Lincoln Memorial and United States National Mall, where Dr. King gave his iconic 17 minute speech for Civil Rights. The experience extends with museum-inspired points of interest, and collaborative mini-game quests you complete with others. These activities progress players through the experience and bring to life important themes of Dr. King’s speech: we move forward when we work together.

As the description states, there’s more to do than just the video of the speech. It’s a fully interactive event that also includes facts about King and his civil rights movement.

Below is an example of what you can see in the event.
